Connecting with Teachers to Enhance Student Learning

Peter Gibeny, co-founder of Nextgen DJ Academy, recently had the opportunity to meet with teachers at the Transition Year Teacher Professional Network Conference. The event allowed us to discuss how DJing can be used as an engaging, creative tool to enrich student programs and provide a unique skill set for students in TY (Transition Year).

The Power of Music and DJing in Education

At Nextgen DJ Academy, we believe that teaching students to DJ goes beyond just learning how to mix tracks. It’s about teaching valuable life skills like creativity, teamwork, time management, and confidence. DJing can offer students a way to express themselves musically while gaining an understanding of sound engineering, technology, and performance. By introducing these concepts into the TY curriculum, we’re helping students develop a diverse range of skills in a fun and interactive way.

Bringing DJ Skills to the Classroom

Our DJ workshops are designed to be accessible, hands-on, and full of energy. Students get the chance to use professional DJ equipment, learn how to mix music, and explore the technical side of live performances. It’s not just about playing music — it’s about understanding the mechanics behind the music, from beat matching and transitioning to live editing. The workshops also encourage collaboration, as students often work in pairs or teams to create their own DJ sets.

Engaging Students with Creative Learning

What’s most exciting about our DJ workshops is how they tap into students' passions for music while also introducing them to technology and performance skills they may not encounter in other areas of their education. Through DJing, students build confidence, gain technical knowledge, and develop a sense of accomplishment as they see their music come together.

Let’s Inspire the Next Generation of DJs

After speaking with teachers and TY coordinators, we are more excited than ever to bring our DJ workshops into schools. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we can’t wait to continue enriching the TY experience by teaching students a skill that they can carry with them far beyond the classroom. If you’re a TY coordinator or teacher interested in introducing DJing to your students, we’d love to chat and help you bring this unique program to your school.
